horrible things

BOO! It’s always Halloween for the GOP

Screaming “Tyranny” wasn’t working.
Nor was “Socialism”
Nor was “Crushing Debt.”
So I guess it’s time to go back to some good old fashioned fear mongering:

It didn’t work in 2006. It didn’t work in 2008. Maybe the third time will also not be a charm.
In a remarkable video just released by House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and ranking intelligence committee member Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), images of Obama “bowing” to Saudi officials and shaking hands with Hugo Chavez are interspersed with footage of the Pentagon exploding and terrorists doing bad things. All of it is back-dropped by frightening music.

“What is the overarching strategy?” Boehner asked when questioned about the video. “I’m trying to push the administration to describe what their overarching strategy is.”

Here’s the link:

So… okay. You people are jerks.

This is how you respond less than 24 hours after the guy says “You have to start meeting me halfway?” Which, I know is baffling, but is still a reach across the aisle?

You attack, as though it were still campaign season.

Do I feel safer? Yes. But I’m not a secessionist loon, a whiny sore loser, or a bitter member of a majority that apparently feels like they were supposed to stay in power forever.

Do I feel 100% safe? Nope. I did on 9/10/01 – and those days are gone. So, this ad could have run after 9/12 I suppose, with the current president swapped out with Smirky McCowboy hat – but that would have been the low road.

I guess you were waiting for day 101 to pull this. Bad move. Because here’s my math:

64% of the population approve of the job Obama is doing.
Only 21% of the population identifies themselves as conservatives.

There’s 85%.

I’ll give you the other 15%, even though I believe that it’s probably a split between people who think he’s failing and people who feel he’s not left enough.

Still – with my generous math, that means on a 2-1 margain, Americans are putting their faith in this guy while the 21% vocal minority that probably represents the 36% that aren’t thrilled and they’re doing NOTHING to convince the rest of us it’s nothing more than petty, partisan BS.

So – Here’s what I hope. This is the last straw for Obama.

I’m hoping this administration rolls over you guys through 2010 and it either works or it doesn’t, and people make up their minds when it does or doesn’t.

I believe it will.

I’m on the “2″ side, not the “1″ side represented by the 20% screaming side.

The leaders of the GOP might be making the choir they preach to happy, but they are, as was said in earlier news stories, “Sinking the brand.”

Enjoy the GOP-tanic, kids. All you’re doing is making it sink faster, harder and for a very long time.

Maybe when it surfaces again, it’ll be something that won’t be embarrassing for a moderate to climb on board.
