It is naive to say this isn't all about Mormonism–it is. I used to be a member, all of my family is staunch LDS, and I live right in the middle of it.

In Utah gay bashing is completely acceptable, without most of them really stopping to think about what they're saying. I post on a Mormon board, and it stuns me the hatred and ignorance they express, with no qualms whatsoever.

I guarantee that many of your Mormon friends might not gay bash in your face, but they are doing it nonetheless, within the confines of those who agree with them, which is the vast majority of people in Utah, as well as areas with a significant Mormon population.

I'm not talking about civil discussions where Mormons disagree with you if you support gay rights. I am talking about out and out hatred of gays in the Church. The Church itself will officially deny it, but it does absolutely nothing to stop it.

Half century later, the Mormon church just couldn't accept equality for blacks (the seed of Cain bullshit). Again, public pressure but more powerful, the threat of the church losing tax exemption, God gave another revelation. Like magic, the church accepted blacks into the priesthood. Bottom line: George Carlin was right again: God always needs money!

The problem of inequality for GLBT will be defeated when the Mormon church is hit hard in the pocketbook. Seems to be the only way to get through to those brethren like the guv.

There's a big debate about gay marriage which is going state to state. Fine. I have my opinions on that, and will reserve them for another time.

For me, this is about something very simple: Can you fire someone for being gay?

If your state says yes, then gays and gay friendly industries should not be supporting that state, no matter how cool that event may be.
