Election day 2009. Blah blah blah.

So, the election day that means something to like eight people (outside the media)  is over.  Did you vote?  Did you care?   Were you dancing in the streets like the Republican party is this morning? This is the happiest they’ve been since America lost the Olympics.

Here is the ONLY thing I care about.

Sarah Palin rode into upstate New York on her Unicorn made of crazy, and every chubby super-right-of-center white dude through their considerable bulk behind this guy:

Doug_Hoffman

Well played, GOP!  The guy has all the mediagenics of a “before” in a teeth whitening ad, but because he passed the anti-gay, anti-choice litmus test, you assumed he’d sail right in.  Nicely done.

While yes, Scazzawhatchermaccallit was MAYBE 51% conservative, but it’s nice to know you can’t just insert any Don Knotts looking mofo into an election, sprinkle it with fringe dust and hope it all works out for you.

Look.  I don’t give a crap about governor races unless it’s California.  These people do not affect me, affect my life, have the ability to obstruct something I care about, or change anything on a national level that matters to me.

But someone I didn’t vote for, say like this Hoffman clown, or Minnesota imbecile Michelle Bachman… these people can affect the country.  They have just as much of a say as someone who isn’t crazier than a bag of cats.  I might not vote in their election, but their elections matter to me.

So, everybody gets to win today.

The GOP got some bumps.  Some upticks in Virginia, and there’s a new governor in the state of Mooksylvania.  Maybe it’ll be the Halloween scare that Obama needs to get a few more things done.

But here’s my takeaway:  On the one race that mattered on a national level, the GOP showed they don’t have a place for moderates.   The great white hope from the great white state of Alaska zeroed Sarahpac on a district that’s been Republican forever… and a Democrat won.  The hand-selected puppet dropped in by Beck and Limbaugh LOST.

So while Democrats should learn a few lessons, the Republicans should learn a few as well.

Fringe is not your future.
