It started with this:

“While a variety of conservatives from different backgrounds have expressed reservations about Sotomayor, angry white conservatives have been consistently over-the-top, offensive and personal in their attacks. The ‘racist’ claim is based on one out-of-context remark the judge made. These conservatives, meanwhile, focus largely on Sotomayor’s own race and the presumption that because she is not white, she must have benefited from affirmative action in every step of her career and thus deprived a more qualified white person of all of her successes.

Pat Buchanan described Sotomayor in a column Friday as an “anti-white liberal judicial activist” as well as a “lightweight” who “covers up her intellectual inadequacy by bullying from the bench.”

John Derbyshire, at National Review Online, took admiration for Sotomayor’s life story as anintentional insult to him and all other white people:

I get mighty annoyed by the unspoken implication in a lot of commentary that anyone not a member of a Protected Minority must have grown up in a twelve-bedroom lakeside mansion and been chauffered off to prep school with a silver spoon in his mouth. Judge Sotomayor was raised in public housing? So was I. Her mother was a nurse working late shifts? So was mine. When did white working poor people disappear off the face of the earth? Where are the eager listeners to their “compelling stories”?

Wow. What a big bucket of STFU this deserves. But it also deserves a repost from my facebook blog, because the time, it seems, is right. Angry Old Whitey is getting very angry again. And mostly, over this:

So, my Sunday’s usually start with the news pages.

Yahoo. Huffingtonpost. NY Times. And I’m starting to see a trend.

A lot of old white guys are getting very, very red faced that they don’t look at the President and his cabinet, or his choices, or his ideals – and see a reflection anymore.

Remember me? I was old, white and angry before old,

white and angry became cool. And now, I’m old, white

and angry again.

Politically, of course. I mean, after 9/11 – these guys thought they had a lock on, and the rights to, the keys to all political decision making. I mean, brown people were coming to get us! They spoke a different language, their skin color was… olive and they were after us!

And look, I get it, there are people in this world who want to do us great harm.

Hell, look at the news this week – there are people in THIS country that want to do us great harm.

And I’m hoping whatever the hell Obama is doing in Afghanistan helps and that he still has his eye on the prize despite the fact the number one old, white angry guy squawks daily that he does not.

Dick Cheney – President and CEO of Old,

White and Angry incorporated. It was either

that or “Welcome to Walmart – Get your gun

and get the hell out!”

Politically, Obama doesn’t look like them. His solutions are not their solutions. But then again, the solutions they’ve had – invade, let corporations do what they want, shove minority opinions in a box, wrap yourself in the flag – those aren’t working now.

I mean, they can get a bunch of people just like them furious – the same 20% that supported and still support President Bush – but that’s it. So the solution, it seems, is get louder. Disrupt. Have tea parties. Cry “Socialist!”

You can’t just punch your way out of a sh*t economy. Everything that could have been abused in the 2000s has been.

And all of these old, angry white guys who feel like their car got stolen by some punk from Chicago don’t like the fact that they’re going to have to give back a little of what they made in the last eight years. If they stay rich, their taxes are going up.

But since these are the same guys who were crying when Clinton took their car, I don’t think they have to worry about unemployment. When they’re in power, they scream to keep it, when they’re out of power, they scream to get it back.

And apparently, screaming is a recession proof job pays very, very well.

Sure, I could have gotten a photo of Rush Limbaugh

but thought “Big. Cigar smoking. Cartoonish Thug.”

And figured, this guy was much better. Spider-man, save us!

And some of this is people realizing… America is changing. It’s changing around them. I get it. It’s sort of how I felt in the 2000s, when my president kept hitting me in the face with his faith. I didn’t like it. It made me feel different. It’s where I got my little phrase: “Jewish when provoked.”

I don’t mind people approaching me on the street to talk about my faith, I’m polite when the Mormons knock on my door, and I can read Rick Warren and – while leaving some of the things I don’t like on the floor – still walk away with something.

But I resented being evangelized by the guy behind the desk in the Oval Office. And you know what? So did the rest of the world. And now he’s gone.

It reminds me, in a way, the way some 20 somethings HATE new cartoons, and love the stuff they grew up with. I remember when Fairly Oddparents came out – a lot of people loved it, but a lot of young adults screamed heresy – they wanted “Rocket Power” or “Rugrats” or “Pete and Pete.”

Valid, decent shows. But my theory on this is always based on the idea that when a cartoon you love gets taken off the air, it makes you realized “I’m not a kid anymore.” And it makes you mad because that part of your life is over, and other people made the decision for you.

And that’s what’s going on right now. “Bush” got cancelled and now, that part of your life is over. And it’s pissing you off.

Face my jowled fury!

So, all you angry old white guys – and some of the younger ones who are just as angry – who want to “take the country back,” I ask you – take it from WHO, exactly? Nobody stole it from you, nobody broke into your house and stole your political clout. It’s not yours. It’s everybody’s.

And, more importantly, how dare you? You want to take it back, you wait your turn, just like everybody else had to through what some would consider eight long years of idiocracy. There’s an election coming in 2010. Vote. There’s one coming in 2012. Vote.

You know those pictures in Europe? Of people screaming and yelling and booing? I don’t believe that’s ALL Europeans… I think those are a minority group of hooligans that make everyone around them look like idiots. And maybe that’s the issue here?

For most of their lives, the guys I’m talking about were in the majority. Politically. Culturally. Religiously. And Ethnically. They could look in a mirror, or on a TV, or in their newspapers, and see themselves from Skin to Soul.

And in one fell swoop, these old white guys are minorities.

And it makes them very, very angry.

P.S. I can look in a mirror and get the irony of me getting this worked up about this.
